Meet Murphy!

Murphy Brennan is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, double majoring in Psychology and Exercise and Sport Science. As an aspiring dietician, she plans on going to graduate school to get her Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics. In the summer of 2019, after struggling with an eating disorder for eight years, Brennan self-entered herself into an Intensive Outpatient Program treatment. She admits that this decision took honesty, confidence, and patience within herself. Nonetheless, she regrets nothing. Ever since, Murphy sees the beauty and value in food, eating, nutrition, and letting go of an unhealthy control.

Murphy created an Instagram and blog page called “Mindfully Murphy.” Her goal? To redefine the concept of food. She posts everything from workouts to grocery lists to uplifting words, and it truly has become part of her form of recovery. Not only is she inspired to transform and reflect on herself, but Murphy also hopes her platform will be an example to others. She advocates for disassembling toxic diet culture, balancing exercising and eating, and listening to your own body.

“Let’s start seeing ourselves for who we truly are: not one that is dictated by the number on a scale. That starts with educating ourselves and encouraging others to come along on this journey too.”
